Crack sealing is one of the most cost effective road pavement preservation tools available and a very important tool for any pavement management program.
Sealing cracks in asphalt pavement is a commonly used maintenance procedure which reduces pavement deterioration by eliminating surface water penetration into underlying base and sub-base layers. Cracks left untreated will lead to more cracks, alligator cracking, potholes and sub-base failure.
Roadway Management has found the AC & Fiber (asphalt cement and polyester fiber) crack sealing method the most effective. The cracks are cleaned with air blasting and the sealant is extruded by pressure into the crack. The polyester fiber adds strength to the sealant which in turn increases road pavement life. |
